LAHORE: The Punjab University on Tuesday declared the results of MBBS First Professional Part-I Special Supplementary Examination 2012.

PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran had got Syndicate’s approval for holding the special supplementary examination through a circulation. In the circular, the university administration had not explained any hardship or grievance.

Consequently, a Syndicate member had objected that the matter seemed very serious and required thorough deliberation in the Syndicate rather than getting a consent of the members by circulation.

The Syndicate member had requested that the case might be placed on the regular agenda of the statutory body’s meeting. However, the decision was notified very next day on Sept 5.

It was learnt that 67 candidates – 33 of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore, 34 of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Lahore — had failed in the MBBS first professional Part-I annual examination.

Later, 74 candidates from both colleges appeared for the supplementary examination out of whom 41 failed again.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan Medical and Dental Council administrator and Registrar Dr Raja Amjad Mahmood had told Dawn holding of special supplementary examination would be illegal.

He had stated the Punjab University had not consulted the council about the issue.

Stating this was an abnormal decision, Dr Mahmood had said till to date, only one special supplementary examination had been conducted for the ward of then Martial Law Administration Gen Zia way back in 1983.

RESULTS: The PU has also declared the results of MBBS First Professional Part-I annual examination for 2013 conducted along with the special supplementary examination 2012.
